The Ancient Hawaiian People were some of the Worlds greatest craftsman. They excelled at many Arts and Disciplines. Due to their seclusion and geographical isolation they were unique in many ways. They had no metals and no pottery so they learned to utilize everything in their natural environment.
Some of the more important skills were Weaving, Stone Carving and Wood Working. These were Essential for day to day life. Then there were crafts such as Tapa Pounding, Net Sewing and Several forms of Lei Making that also served their functions in the Hawaiian Culture as well. In modern times these skills are hard to come by and we are proud to be able to carry on some of these traditions at Kamokila Hawaiian Village.
